Meet Sarah: our new Assistant Production Editor

sarah blogWe’d like to introduce you to our newest member of the team and Assistant Production editor, Sarah, who has joined us after finishing a MSc in Publishing.

How are you finding emc so far?
I love it! Everyone’s been really friendly and helpful. I’ve learnt a lot already and I’m looking forward to learning even more.

You have just finished an MSc in Publishing before previously doing BA(Hons) Creative Industries, how you do think your studies have prepared you for working in the design/production side of the publishing industry?
My undergrad really gave me a taste of the industry while doing a Masters threw me right into it. I was taught InDesign and the values of production. It was while using these skills on creating a digital magazine that I discovered my love of production and design. Even my dissertation was a comparison of book cover design.

You have previously worked for Blackwell’s selling Educational books. What did you enjoy most about this and how do you think it will help in your role here at emc?
It’s important to know the stock you are selling and while I enjoyed advising the customers about the right book for their child, they also taught me what they looked for in an educational book. Design and accuracy is so important in learning materials because the pupil has to engage with it. I think that this helps me to maintain accuracy in my work here at emc.

What do you enjoy doing outside of emc?
I enjoy walking and swimming, especially in nice weather, but you just can’t beat a cup of tea and a good book.

Cake or ice cream?
Cake. Always.

Pen or pencil?
Pen

Tea or coffee?
Tea

Old or new?
Both. I like making old things new.

Truth or dare?
Truth

The book or the film?
The book, although for some reason I never actually read the ones made into films.

PC or mac?
I’m a mac convert.

Who’d win in a fight a crab or a terrapin?
Terrapin, they are surprisingly vicious.

And finally, what came first the chicken or the egg?
I saw a card the other day that had a picture of a chicken and an egg on it. They were negotiating a truce. I don’t want to stir up tensions again by weighing in.
